Quinn Residence, Mike & Jan
This is an intriguing project in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where I acted as architect and overall designer. The owner Mike Quinn has worked in the Middle East for much of his life with his wife Jan who had also lived there as a child. They wanted to bring their love of Islamic architecture to their property in a suburb of San Miguel with spectacular views. Coincidentally the Spanish conquistadors that colonized the area originated from Andalusia, southern Spain where the Islamic architecture dominates.  There are many 17th and 18th century Moorish details to be found in the old houses of San Miguel. Every window, door, light fixture and piece of furniture for this project was handcrafted by local artisans and is custom for the house. In the process I traveled to Spain, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey for inspiration and to purchase brass hardware for the doors and bathrooms amongst other treasures. This collection of antiques, art and accessories gathered by the Quinns over decades of travels in the region were incorporated throughout the house.
